This is a great music sharing site. Create a playlist and you are added to the list.
The idea is good, but I am really impressed with the interaction design. He is limiting the searchability of the site, which some users could find as a deterrent. Putting the users in a cluster, though, increases the exploration of the content, and then, when you view a users playlist he is using semantic urls so that you know where you are and that you can bookmark back to that page. So many sites use proprietary bookmarking systems when all internet browsers already have bookmarking capabilities.
The interface is clean and to the point. Kudos.
If you have a muxtape playlist already or create one, please share.

This is the best thing since sliced bread and last.fm! When you are listening to Last.fm radio, there is also the element of discovery, but this gets you interacting with the actual artist and song names, and it also doesn’t pretend to be a one–stop shop for music information. It’s just people sharing their favorite songs like with the mixtapes of the past. It’s’ Muxtape!

i love this whole thing. i wish you could somehow save and archive the muxtapes though. i like how each person just gets one and they can change their playlists, but it kinda takes away from the whole idea of mix-tapes. not sure if you guys remember, but back in the day you’d slave away making your friends mix-tapes off the radio or off other tapes (before cd’s came around and evidently much before the ever illustrious mp3). anyway one of the best parts about mix-tapes are that they capture the essence of the moment, like a time-capsule, and on muxtape, if the playlist is always changing it kinda takes away from that idea of archiving time through music. but in a way, i guess, it represents our current culture of speedy change. nothing is permanent in our day and age. it blows my mind.

Yes, this definitely is lacking the archival quality of the true mixtape. I do believe, though, that the creator of muxtape did not expect the response that he has gotten. One guy from New York created this and it is now one of the hottest things on the internet. I think that this idea will definitely be expanded upon and I sure hope that archiving the mixtapes is included, despite our era’s A.D.D. :)
